Looking to go electric?  An electric lawn mower may be a good start.  It goes without saying, but I'd look for one on sale.  Under $300 and your going to have to deal with a plastic mower deck and short runtime, which depending on the size of your lawn may be adequate.  If you want a self-propelled mower, a large metal deck, and a 60+ minute runtime, you will have to spend at least $400. Want multiple battery capacity and the price jumps to the $600 range.  I ended up going with a 60 volt greenworks pro cordless mower with a 21″ metal deck.

Things to check before buying an electric lawn mower

• Look for a lawn mower with a mostly solid metal construction
• Unless you have a small lawn anything under 40 volts is going to have a short runtime
• Some mowers can handle multiple batteries for extended runtime
• How much does it cost for a replacement battery? (Hint – a 60 volt battery runs about $199)
• Save space and get a mower that can store vertically
